Happy New Year!
Today, along with my regular Cosmology article I wanted to write something to mark the significance of this coming year. As some of you may or may not know, last month I moved to a part-time work schedule. This was to begin adjusting my life to a new way of doing things. Instead of writing only as my schedule allowed, I would actually be carving out two full days a week to focus on it. Two days a week to learn what it looks like to write from home, to build habits, to learn what it looks like, and to be motivated by my will instead of circumstances.
So far I believe this has borne significant fruit. For one I’ve been able to get ahead and stay ahead on my articles. MainlyI have been able to focus on my major revision of The Shadow’s Cast sequel. As of writing this I am about a third of the way through, but by the time I post this I’m hoping to be closer to the halfway mark. The project has been a significant one for me. I wrote this book almost four years ago, and since that time my skill has progressed significantly/ not only my skill, but my theological understanding, and the rules in my cosmology that underpin it. When I first wrote it I had only a faint idea of who my first fantasy race were as a people, and nothing about the newest to be introduced here. More than that, I had not even ratified what I looked for in my intelligent races, let alone written even the outline of my cosmological rules. As I’m sure you can imagine, that has had a massive impact on what goes on and how I write it.
This coming year will be significant in two additional ways. Firstly, in the first week of february I will be leaving my job to write full time. Ideally this will lead to more posts here on the website, although I believe I will stick to the once a month schedule for the cosmology articles. In truth they take a significant amount of revision and peer review before I post them. As a result I do not wish to put any added burden on my reviewer by upping the article count. The final way is that I hope to have been significant headway towards publication by then.
Now, I have been asked by a number of you already what I will be doing for money during that time. Believe me, I wish I could say I was operating with definite numbers. It is simply not my natural way of doing things to leap before I’ve had the opportunity to look. Yet there is one thing I have worked hard to raise in significance in my decision making process. One that over rules any and every objection I might have for my actions. And that is one of Obedience. God has called me forward, called me to act. To act out of faith, and to act out of promise. Promises that stretch more than seven years into the past. Promises that stretch all the way back into my young adulthood. There is a great deal I do not know about the whens, or the ways, of God’s plan. But I do know this; he has commanded me to act out of faith in his promise, and I can do no less than that.
To all of you out there, thank you for your interest and support. Thank you for reading, sharing, and discussing my work. This year will contain so many new things, I’m sure my head will soon be spinning. I look forward to all the new readers to come, and to a life I have been studying and preparing for. Together, let’s watch God work in the ways only he can. A new year, with new timing, and new directions. Until then, I wish you all a happy New Year, one of going further up, and further in.
